Hi! My name is Ellie Citron, and I am CSL’s Representative of the Month. I love CSL so much; it is such a great organization. At the end of 9th grade, I decided to run to be a CSL grade representative for many reasons. During that year, I was inducted into the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s Youth Mentorship Program. Throughout this year and last year, I have worked to mentor recently diagnosed Type 1 Diabetics. By participating in this program, I realized my love for helping others. Thus, I wanted to extend this into my school life. I am SO lucky to be a part of such an amazing organization.
For me, community service is at the center of my life. Everyday, we focus on ourselves: what we’re doing wrong, what other people are doing wrong, etc. Throughout high school, I have made a conscious effort to look outside of myself and help others. I think that community service is so great because it teaches us several valuable life lessons: humility, respect, compassion, work ethic, and love.
I am a volunteer at several organizations in the Baltimore community. I am a youth ambassador and mentor at JDRF, the Juvenile Diabetes Research foundation. Also, I volunteer at Our Daily Bread in Baltimore every other weekend. I find that service often reminds me of how lucky I am. For the rest of high school, I want to continue to help others and make my mark on the community.
