Empty Bowls was created in 1990 by Imagine Render. The Empty Bowls project is a grassroot movement to raise money and awareness to fight hunger. Empty Bowls events are held all over the world. Bowls are sold, often with a meal, and the money is donated to food banks and soup kitchens.

Bryn Mawr has been hosting an Empty Bowls event for 10+ years. Bowls are made by students K-12 and sold with dinner. Last year, the upper school made over 100 bowls, the middle school created 80 bowls and the lower school made about 35 bowls. On February 11th, Bryn Mawr will host Empty Bowls from 5-7 pm. Admission is $5 for students and $10 for adults. Admission includes one student made bowl and a soup and salad dinner.

All of the money collected goes to Our Daily Bread, a soup kitchen located in downton Baltimore. In addition to feeding citizens of Baltimore, Our Daily Bread's services also include job training, employment counseling, and case managment. The organization provides lunch to anyone and breakfast to seniors and people with disabilities. This organization is a staple in Baltimore and feeds over 1,000 people a day. Below is a photo from the Empty Bowls 2015 event.
